ADs in VOGUE

Although the advertisements in Vogue are not created by Vogue editors, they take up a significant amount of space in the magazine and communicate a lot of messages to women.

Analysis:

This ad shows models coming out of a building. They are all very done up in makeup and extravagant outfits. It's interesting how none of them are looking where they are going, instead, they are looking around at other people. This teaches women the importance of caring about how other people view you and looking good when you are out. By using skinny and very classically beautiful models, Miu Miu is able to create an image of its brand that simultaneously reinforces the beauty norm and creates insecurities for women.

This Dior advertisement objectifies the model as she is shown from the male gaze. You can almost see up her skirt as she sits in a seductive manner. It's not unusual for women to be sexualized in advertisements selling to women as this ad is making women feel subconscious about their sexuality in order to get them to buy the perfume.

This simple advertisement shows nothing but this image of a topless white model and a Celine purse. It advertises simplicity and reinforces the idea that white, skinny and young is the norm. The model's messy hair and lack of noticeable makeup are deceiving because it appears that she looks very natural, but in fact, she is very made up.
